GR 10 Red 2022

4 Monos (4 Monkeys) is a project launched in 2010 by 4 friends passionate about wine - Javier García, Laura Robles, David Velasco, and David Moreno - in the Sierra de Gredos, west of Madrid. They farm 5 hectares of their own vineyards, along with 5 hectares with other producers, all located in and around the villages of San Martín de Valdeiglesias, Cadalso de los Vidrios, and Cenicientos. Their mission is to capture the purity of the local old-vine Albillo and Garnacha as well as the region's granitic soils using organic viticulture and natural winemaking methods. Vinos de Madrid is an appellation that covers a vast area in three provinces surrounding the city of Madrid. The climate is continental with a bit more rainfall than the rest of central Spain. The most prized area for serious viticulture is called San Martín de Valdeiglesias, where one finds gently rolling hills covered in green scrubland and vines planted on shallow sandy soil resting on a granite base. The altitude is quite high, starting at 650 meters and often exceeding one thousand meters.
