Drink with precision, strength and freshness

These are the three terms that the merchants who represent the Brocard family like to use. Precision, to highlight the Chablis terroir, the house’s sole production appellation. Strength, for the natural structure and length of the appellation's Chardonnays. And finally, freshness, because you don’t drink a Chablis wine if you don’t appreciate acidity and tension.

Obviously, at $25 a bottle, you will have guessed that this is not a cru or even an AOC Chablis wine, but rather a Chardonnay benefiting from the expertise of a house accustomed to great wines. Here, it is the Jurassic soils that will highlight a nose of tangerines and a palate of citrus fruit mixed with green apple. The finish will be mineral and long, as it should be. It goes without saying that wood is avoided for the aging process.

In the soils collection offered by the house—the others being Portlandian and Kimmeridgian—Jurassic is the only one available in the network. We can therefore take advantage of the expertise of a great producer from the region at an affordable price. With the deluges, frosts, and hailstorms that the region experienced this spring, it will unfortunately be increasingly complex to find these wines.

One can, however, always hope that with the house’s expertise, the 200 hectares of planted surface area, and the dynamism of Céline and Julien Brocard now at the helm, we can continue to enjoy these excellent Chardonnays at a friendly price.

  • To pair it with: A duo of salmon tartares from Cavistes on a summer Saturday evening…
  • For the anecdote: We quite like the house motto passed down by mentor Louis Petit to Jean-Marc Brocard: Look, be quiet, and learn…
  • To better understand the variations of Chardonnay: Get on the waiting list for our varietal happy hour on the subject in the fall of ’24.
  • To elevate the Chablis experience, we will also try their 2022 Chablis Sainte Claire, available at the SAQ for $30 (14076911)
