Austrian sparkles
It was in 2015 that the two Renner sisters took up the family torch and renamed the estate Renner & Rennersistas. Following the example of the new generation of Austrian winemakers, they dedicate themselves to the production of organic and biodynamic wines without, however, compromising on complexity and richness.
This blend of Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, and Saint-Laurent was intended to be a rosé during its first vintage, but an unexpected color development gave it a darker hue. They have done it again every year since for a red-rosé. The result is very pleasant in terms of freshness and liveliness with a touch of astringency that will make your mouth water. Serve cool but not cold so as not to wake up the ambient tannins. Cherry, cranberry, and plum notes will be highlighted by a light effervescence.
It’s organic and biodynamic but mastered for a young and festive style. Perfect for an apéro with a bit of sparkle!
- To pair with it: Nice slices of roasted beets, sprinkled with sesame seeds and a good oil, all placed on grilled romaine leaves.
- A little anecdote: Since 2021, the sisters have been supported by their brother, but they have no plans to rename the estate Brorenner…
- To better understand Austria: Our next world cup match announced this Wednesday here.
- To compare: If you wish to explore Blaufränkisch with a little less hue but still some color, the Naked Rosé 2023, Weingut Heinrich, also Austrian and also at the SAQ for $24 (14727489)
