Standing out from the Lot to better enter it
Better known for his precise, terroir-driven Cahors, Fabien Jouves has been running Mas del Périé since 2006 and has been dabbling in biodynamics since 2011. Here, he offers us a white ‘vin de soif’ (thirst-quencher) that calls for spring celebrations.
A true salad of white grape varieties, this wine is naturally charming with its vibrant nose of wax and white flowers, and a dense, smooth, and long citrus-forward palate. Sauvignon Blanc, although predominant, mellows out in the face of the aging process, while the Chardonnay, Colombard, Sémillon, and Ugni Blanc express themselves in whole bunches. It’s organic, natural, but above all mature, coming from a winemaker who doesn’t do things halfway and who has about twenty vintages under his belt, year in and year out.
You will want to drink this Jouves cuvée sparingly as it will soon be released, since we suspect the monopoly didn't go overboard on the order button…
· To pair with it: Smoked salmon in potato salad with dill and citrus,
· For the trivia: The Cahors appellation does not allow white grape varieties and they must be renamed Côtes du Lot,
· To better understand white grapes: Our varietal aperitifs, which will resume in September…
· For a Périé evening: Cahors all about fruit with Fabien Jouves’ 2022 Haut Côt de Fruit for $21 at the SAQ (14071934)
